Two summer reads FREE through Monday!

Free promo 7-11 aug 2014.
Today, I’m pleased to bring back Greek author Effrosyni Moschoudi, who interviewed here back in April. When she told me that all of her books were going to be free on Amazon this week, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to spread the word. The sale runs through Monday, August 11.

Read on for more information about her, about her books, and about this fleeting opportunity! Continue reading

My Writing Process blog tour

Immortal Longings cover (new)A few weeks ago, author RG Dole tagged me in this Writing Process Blog Tour. RG is the author of a supernatural star-crossed lovers book called Immortal Longings (as a fan of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, I hope to get to it soon!), and I’m honored she thought of me for this.

I’ve been struggling to find the time to pick up the torch, so without further ado:

.

What am I working on?

dfw-lk-did-cover-midDamsels in Distress, the sequel to Desperately Ever After, is due out next month. It’s hard to say too much about the story because the first book is still brand new and I don’t want to give anything away! I’ll just say that Damsels in Distress continues Belle’s struggle and also adds Sleeping Beauty (Dawn) into the mix. Dawn is a background character in Book One for space reasons, but her story is actually one of my favorites. I really can’t wait for everyone to get to know her better. There are so many questions people never ask about the Sleeping Beauty tale: What kind of man would discover a comatose woman in the woods and decide to kiss her? How would she feel waking up covered in dust with a stranger’s tongue in her mouth? What if she had been in love with someone else before the curse hit? How would she reconcile her old life with her brand new existence?

After that, I’ll be diving into the third installment in the series, as well as writing my first Desperately Ever After novella. The latter will tell the story behind Grethel, the woman who took Rapunzel as a baby and kept her in that tower. There are so many minor characters in the series that I’d love to explore further, so I hope it’s the first of many side projects. Continue reading

All good things must come to an end

Today marks the end of Desperately Ever After’s blog tour, with a double stop at Tracy Riva’s Books & Reviews, and Deal Shaing Aunt.

It’s been fun, with a month-long price drop to $2.99, giveaways galore (read on to see which are still ongoing), interviews, guest posts, and some pretty darn fantastic reviews that left me smiling almost every day.

Here are some of the highlights. The red asterisk indicates sites that are still offering free copies. Keep in mind that the price drop is only temporary, and the sequel will be out in August … so now’s the perfect time to get acquainted with Rapunzel, Belle, Cinderella, and the rest of the gang as they cope with life after true love’s kiss!

“It’s the perfect book to be reading this summer and it’s completely unputdownable!” ~ The YA’s Nightstand *** Giveaway ends July 1!

“An explosive cocktail that will have you laughing out loud and wanting more and more! … Laura’s style is witty and flirty and had me turning page after page devouring this little gem.” ~ Lost in Chick Lit

..

“No more damsel in distress, useless without her prince, but modern day woman struggling with and enjoying love. Desperately Ever After is a wonderfully sarcastic, romantic and heartwarming tale about love and friendship with witty conversations, juicy cliches and a healthy dose of humor. I cannot wait to read the sequel!” ~ M’s Bookshelf Continue reading

Blog Tour Kickoff — and a special price!

Desperately Ever After had a phenomenal May — becoming a 2014 NIEA Chick-Lit Finalist, and then making Amazon’s Top 100 lists for both Women’s Fiction Fantasy and Humor 🙂

I did multiple happy dances over the past few weeks (or, more accurately in my current state, happy waddles).  But now it’s time to look toward something new: My month-long Fiction Addiction Blog Tour!!

For those unfamiliar with a blog tour, it basically means you’ll see Desperately Ever After featured on a bevy of wonderful websites throughout the month of June. And not only that. There will be reviews, guest posts, interviews, dream casts, giveaways, and a discounted e-book price of $2.99!

It kicks off Tuesday with a guest post about the writing life (and why we could all use a muse!) at Chicklit Club Connect. Follow the schedule below to keep up with all the fun.

And don’t forget to feed your beach bag a copy of the book Chick Lit Central called ideal for “Once Upon a Time withdrawal” and anyone who misses Sex and the City or Desperate Housewives. Bestselling author Stephanie Evanovich praised it as “desperately delicious,” and myriad Amazon and Goodreads reviewers said they gobbled the whole thing up in a single day. Desperately Ever After is going on tour!

Blog tour banner

Thanks to the wonderful Shaz Goodwin of Fiction Addiction Book Tours, Desperately Ever After is welcoming summer by hitting the road!

Now don’t worry. I’ve given it a stern talking to about using sunscreen, always keeping the gas tank half full, and limiting the strawberry daiquiri intake. (The last thing we need is a drunken foray splashed all over the pages of the Marestam Mirror!)

But in all seriousness, I’m extremely excited about the following schedule. There will be reviews, guest posts, interviews, dream casts, and — most importantly — giveaways! The tour will officially kick off on May 19 with a guest post on Shaz’s blog, Jera’s Jamboree.

Guest Post at Jencey Gortney’s Writer’s Corner

Huge thanks to Jencey Gortney for asking me to guest post on her blog today! Here’s a taste, but you can find the whole thing over at jenceywrites.blogspot.com.

Have you ever wondered how Cinderella would feel ten years down the road, when her iconic ball gown no longer fit and she had four kids, royal duties up the wahzoo, and a husband who was hardly ever around?

And what about Beauty? After all, her husband was quite a jerk before he became a monster. Too hung up on looks to let a little old fairy in from the rain! Once his curse broke, how long would it take for “Beast” to go right back to his old ways? When would he realize there were a million other “beauties” in the sea … and it’s good to be the king.

These are the kind of questions that can drive a girl crazy. And as someone who can’t watch a movie without making a million “that-would-never-work” remarks, they’ve been driving me crazy for years! Click here to read the full article at jenceywrites.blogspot.com

Karen Doornebos interview… and Undresssing Mr. Darcy giveaway!

Today I have the absolute honor of hosting the next leg of author Karen Doornebos’ blog tour for her brand new release, UNDRESSING MR. DARCY. I’ve mentioned in the past how much I loved her first book, Definitely Not Mr. Darcy, and am thrilled not only that she chose to make a stop at Skipping Midnight… but also that she will be giving one lucky reader a copy of her spanking new book! (Read all the way through for details.) And now, without further ado, here’s Karen!

Doornebos 000037Hello from the Floris Perfumery in London!

As an ice-breaker to each leg of my Blog Tour for UNDRESSING MR. DARCY, I’m taking you along for a ride to England, where I traveled during the summer of 2012 to do some research for the book.

Where am I on this stop? The irresistible perfumery to Her Royal Highness—Floris of London. My heroine and her friend visit this shop in a pivotal scene in UNDRESSING MR. DARCY. This is the shop where my English hero Julian Chancellor, buys his cologne, a lime-based scent that had been originally created by Floris in the 18th century. If you are ever in the St. James area of London, Floris is worth a stop! Read my book and you’ll see why 😉

I’d like to thank you, Laura, for hosting me here on Skipping Midnight.

A bit about the book:

He’s an old-fashioned, hardcover book reader who writes in quill pen and hails from England. She’s an American social media addict. Can he find his way to her heart without so much as a GPS?

You can read the first chapter here!

On to the interview!

1. Karen, it’s been two years since you released your debut novel, DEFINITELY NOT MR. DARCY — which, I have to say, I absolutely loved. How has your life changed since you achieved the dream? How has it remained perfectly the same?

So glad you loved my first book. Everyone seemed to enjoy the humor in that one. As for the dream, I’m living the dream…international book tours, wearing sunglasses in the grocery store so I’m not recognized…just kidding! Although, I often wear sunglasses due to the fact that I didn’t put any makeup on! My life has become infinitely busier. Writing my second book became serious business with daily word counts and just sitting down and writing—everyday. I’m still a mom who goes to my teenagers’ concerts and recitals and I still drive them around to their activities. The days are never long enough! Continue reading
